Upcoming

I am going to be vending this Friday and Saturday at wicked faire.

OSDA to participate in “Throwdown in the Sound” Men’s Tournament
January 30, 2008

The OSDA is excited to confirm that we will be attending the Throwdown in the Sound Men's Tournament scheduled for Saturday, March 8th, 2008 in Tacoma Washington.

At the invitation of the event organizers, OSDA will be making a presentation during the Rules Summit where we hope to further clarify the differences between OSDA Rules and others. We are preparing for an active Q & A session following the presentation. Our goal is simply a better understanding of our rules. OSDA is also planning to schedule a Training / Coaching Scrimmage to show OSDA rules in action.During the tournament, OSDA will be hosting a table where we will have Handouts, Rule Books and information about all things OSDA. There will also be a door prize drawing for new OSDA Merchandise! OSDA appreciates this opportunity to participate at the Throwdown in the Sound, and we have chosen three of our very best to make it happen.

Judy Sowinski (aka "The Polish Ace and The Queen of Mean") has had a long and colorful professional Roller Derby skating career. She regularly jams for the travel and All Star teams. She is intimately familiar with OSDA rules and strategies and skates like a bat out of hell!

Bobby Carnage (aka Rob Wyatt) is the Team Captain of the Hell City Hooligans, one of the few guys who have had the chance to skate one-on-one with their female counterparts in a public scrimmage! He also has the distinct designation of being one of three existing OSDA Certified Referees.
A Call To Action! Please Read! - Repost

From Cenotype:

A Call To Action! Please Read!
You all know that I used to work at QXTs. I haven't been there in a year, because of th shit headed owners, but I have missed the hell out of the staff.

I just recently learned that two of the bouncers, Uriel and Jose were shot Christmas night at Andro's Diner in Newark.

Jose didn't survive and was killed.
Jose left behind 5 children. He was working a bunch of different jobs just to support his kids, QXT's included.

This all happened because they denied two pieces of shit entry to a club. Can you believe that? I am no stranger to the depths of human depravity and am not easily shocked, but the senselessness of this is just fucking pounding at my heart.

Uriel was shot 3 times; once in the face behind the ear and twice in the shoulder/ arm pit area. He managed to catch and restrain one of the two gunmen until the cops showed up.

Supposedly, the scumbag turned rat on his friend and the police have currently frozen his passport and are tracing his cell phone, so hopefully they will catch him sooner-than-later. That has not been confirmed yet.

My hope is that they both get locked up and put into Essex County Correctional,as one of the other QXT's bouncers, Mike is an officer.

Jail can be a real bitch, if you know what i mean.

Here are some articles about the incident:

http://www.nj.com/starledger/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-9/1198733737263940.xml&coll=1

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/27/nyregion/27shoot-1.html

Uriel Ocasio will be out of the hospital today!!!

To add to the pile, the fuckhead owner of Hell's Kitchen Lounge ,another Newark dive bar ,was interviewed on NBC and, rather than take the high road and send condolences about this horrible incident, decided to use his 15 seconds of screen time to shamelessly promote his shit bar.

Here's the video:
http://video.wnbc.com/player/?id=199018#videoid=199018

If you think that this is as fucked up as I do, feel free to contact the owner, Anthony Moraes and let him know that no self-respecting patron, dj or artist will ever set foot in any of his establishments ever again.

Also, please feel free to forward this to everyone and anyone that you think would care about this terrible incident, which was made worse by this asshole.

ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER

This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good
points. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their
arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed
immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT
printed in the Orange County Paper...................

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they
either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree
with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a
great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with
your help it will get published via cyberspace!

New Immigrants

From: "David LaBonte"

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC
Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it
myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so
inclined.

Dave LaBonte (signed)

Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the
Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is
made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down
the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being
treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports
of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new
kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all
areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a
ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented . Some would
even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a
pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad
times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American
households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new
home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a
new life and did everything in their power to help their children
assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor
laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they
had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their
children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along
side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy,France
and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans
fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending
the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no
one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German
American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans.
And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those
immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag
and waving it to r epresent who they were. It would have been a disgrace
to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants
truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot
into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2007 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the
same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with
a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a
guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's
not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants
who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that
for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations
to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for
a better life I think they would be appalled that they are being used as
an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it
happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration
bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just
yet.

(signed) Rosemary LaBonte
